Partners for Advancing Health Equity Workshop Series
Abstract / Description
The Partners for Advancing Health Equity (P4HE) Research Collaborative hosted a workshop series on Mobilization of Community for Health in Latin America and the Caribbean.
This three-part workshop series introduced activism in the region, including leaders among the Garifuna working to combat HIV in Honduras and the diaspora, Candomblé practitioners in Brazil, and Argentines working towards recognition of their African ancestry. During the workshop, participants reflected on how activists have made progress in the past and how they might apply the lessons to their own communities.
The series created a space for attendees to:
- Learn about the history of African descendants and Indigenous communities in Latin America and the Caribbean.
- Understand how communities have come together to care for each other’s health in the past and present.
- Make changes in their own communities by supporting traditional healing in conjunction with biomedicine.
