Abstract / Description

Misinformation and disinformation continue to shape public understanding of health, often undermining trust and disproportionately impacting communities already facing health inequities. Addressing these challenges requires practical strategies that foster trust in health information environments.

The Partners for Advancing Health Equity (P4HE) Research Collaborative hosted a three-part workshop series led by Dr. Rachel Moran and Dr. Maddy Jalbert from the University of Washington’s Center for an Informed Public. The series explored how misinformation spreads, why it resonates, and how to build trust in health information through evidence-based interventions.

The series created a space for attendees to:

  • Learn foundational concepts of misinformation, disinformation, and mal-information, and examine how the Center has applied techniques to address misinformation in real-world contexts.
  • Discuss how health misinformation and disinformation influence decision-making in professional and community settings, with attention to emotional and structural drivers and the importance of trusted messengers and culturally relevant communication.
  • Create strategies to implement these practices in support of trustworthy health communication, with a focus on empowering communities to seek, share, and sustain credible health information.
