Policy and civic engagement for health equity involves individually and collectively collaborating and navigating political structures, contexts, and barriers in evidence-based and non-partisan ways to address systemic barriers to health. It emphasizes bridging divides, fostering systemic change, and empowering the citizenry, in particular marginalized citizens, to be at the forefront of shaping solutions.
The Partners for Advancing Health Equity (P4HE) Research Collaborative, in partnership with the Mississippi Black Women’s Roundtable (MSBWR), hosted a workshop series exploring strategies to be civically engaged as individuals, communities, and organizations.
The series created a space for attendees to:
- Identify key principles of organizing and coalition building in support of health equity.
- Explore strategies and practices that can be leveraged to organize individually and collectively to build power.
- Develop tools, practices, and processes to be civically engaged in our communities and organizations.
