Abstract / Description
In New Orleans, Black residents have higher rates of chronic conditions such as high blood pressure, diabetes, obesity and poor mental health. These conditions are exacerbated by historically higher uninsured rates due to systemic community disinvestment. These disadvantages have led to a 15- to 25-year deficit in life expectancy between Black communities and the city’s wealthier, whiter neighborhoods.
To address these issues, I Deserve It! is training artists and culture bearers to serve as community health workers that deliver health messaging, resources and education to residents of neighborhoods with poor health outcomes. (author description) #P4HEwebinarMay2024
